Beach day (and some notes on DR Time)
Today I am going to the beach with my neighbor Willy (Doris's son) and his friends.
I am completely sunscreened (with two kinds - look at that day-glo skin!), packed up and ready... and waiting... and waiting...
Which brings me to: Dominican Time! This has been one of the facets of Dominican culture that takes some serious getting used to. Nothing really starts when you think it will - when Willy says "we are leaving from 11-12," that probably means 1/1:30. It's really hard to fight the "be ready five minutes early" instinct, which means I do a lot of waiting around anxiously. Last night, I even ducked out of a discoteca invite and just went to bed, since it was getting late and I was getting antsy waiting to hear from Willy and friends.
I'm definitely more willing to wait around for the beach, though....
I am working out the camera problem. I have a bunch of pictures, I just can't transfer them to the computer because of two bad files... I have some people in an online photography forum working on it (n3rd5).
PS This is what I dreamed about last night: http://www.nitrolicious.com/blog/2010/04/29/prada-print-collection/ ... glad my subconscious is focused on important issues.

Update: Just went down to Doris's to eat some soup (she is intent on feeding me, all the time) and the 11am beach day has become a 2pm pool day. Not surprised.
