La Bandera Dominicana

I just went down to have lunch with Doris and her family. She served bandera dominicana, which is one of the most common foods down here. It consists of fried plantains (YUM), rice with beans (habichuelas), and a meat stew - four ingredients for the four sectors of flag that's its namesake. I'm trying to get her to teach me how to make it. It is incredibly good! We also had some avocado, salad, and burned rice. The crispy rice from the bottom of the pan is a delicacy here... pretty good, but definitely a tooth-chipper if you're not careful.

I'm beginning to make slow but steady progress with the project. It's hard to know where to begin. I finalized all the documents and surveys to be translated, and I have a meeting with Claudia Rodriguez, the head of internal medicine at Cabral y Baez Hospital, to discuss logistics on Monday. I'm hoping to be able to actually start focus groups next week (although I'm still waiting on the Brown IRB to respond to my emails!! SO FRUSTRATING).
